Fall Activities with Pumpkins

I just wanted to share with you what I like to do with my kids in the Fall to entertain them for those cold rainy days or even for birthday parties for those with Fall birthdays.

Every year we go to a local farm and have a blast! We go pumpkin picking, take a hay ride, and end the day with a nice hot chocolate.

The kids love their pumpkins. And to make the most of it I like to give them some markers and paint their pumpkins whatever they like. Preferably washable markers just in case they stain their clothes which is more likely to happen no matter how careful kids try to be. With this I mind, they can always wash their pumpkins off and paint something new and repeat.

They have fun and they are entertained! Plus, with the washable markers it is a worry-free activity for us parents.

They love to show off what they have made and display it throughout the house. For now, they have their pumpkins in their rooms on their dressers so they can see their precious pumpkins all the time:)

This is also a great activity idea for birthday parties for those birthdays that fall around this time of the year. And the kids get to take their pumpkins home instead of candy!

We also made a tradition every year to carve the pumpkins, save the seeds, bake them, and eat them! The kids love it, especially when they get to help with the process of making it.

I will share my recipe with you and how I carve and bake the seeds on another post soon.

Thanks for stoping by, and I hope I was able to give you some ideas for a fun entertainment and more family time:)

How I Clean Up My Kids’ Toy Bins

I have mentioned before on my last post that I was going to start talking about how I clean my kids bedrooms and keep them organized.

I have my kids help with the daily routine. Which I am writing about along with this article and will soon be posting about it after this one. And you will be able to see it here.

I do a monthly toy decluttering. This is where I throw any broken toys, loose paper, socks, etc. I know socks? How in the world do socks get in a toy bin? Your guess is as good as mine. Lol!

How I start this process is by making a mess. Yes, you heard me right. A mess!

I begin in my girls’ bedroom because it is the biggest room and it is the room they mostly play in.

I grab all of the girls’ toy bins and dump them in the middle of the room to create a pile of toys. I go around the room and reach under the beds to grab any toys left behind. I then place them all into the pile. I then sit next to the pile and surround the bins beside me.

Before I start, I make sure I have their bins, a garbage bag, and two empty bins. One bin to put toys that belong in the boys’ room and the other bin for toys that belong in the kids’ playroom.

I then start reaching for the first toy and place it in the bin it belongs in. If it’s garbage, put it in the garbage bag.

Once I finish with organizing the toys, I then clean and dust the cubby storage organizer before putting the bins back in their place.

So that’s my tip on how I get the kids’ you bins cleaned done.

Do you have any tips on how you clean up the kids’ rooms?

Parents Rushing Through the Stores. Why?!

Have you ever found yourself pushing through a store trying to rush, and you forget something so you have to turn around and go back to that isle that you passes a minute ago? Then you rush back to the cashiers to see that the product you picked up was either the wrong one or it’s a bit broken? And in between rushing back and forth you almost bump into people, they let you pass through so nicely because they see you have kids in the cart. Love those people! So nice of them…

These are the pillows I got at the store today.

Once the shopping is all finished and you are driving home, you realize what was the point of rushing when the kids were being so good and the stores aren’t that busy for you to be “fighting through traffic.” Well, that just happened to me. Why is that we have a mind set that way?

I feel really bad for those people that were watching me rush around the store or those that so nicely let me pass by.

I think back on it and really I didn’t have to rush. I’m going to a home that is clean, no chores to be done (not many at least), the stores aren’t packed because I went early enough that most folks won’t be at the store for another couple of hours. Is it that I have to transition my schedule? I never used to be like this.

Is it that I’m still in the Summer schedule mode? The time where I’m the busiest with all four of my kids with different needs and wants.

I don’t know why? But I do know this. I realized how I was acting and now I have to deal with that mode. Relax my mind.

Don’t get me wrong. I am the most nicest person out there. I am one of those few people that let the person behind me at the register in front of me just because I had more in my cart. I help those that need help and try to go out of my way to help them at the store when I don’t even work there. But when I have my kids I’m a different person.

These little pumpkins are the other things I picked up today as well. Cute aren’t they?

Perhaps it’s the fact that at any moment the kids will act out. I try to rush out in peace before any of them start to throw a fit or just plain annoy me with their whining. You parents know what I’m talking about. We can have the sweetest kids but they are after all kids.

I am better than this. I will be better than this. I will try my best to not rush anywhere. I will also try to make any store errands very early in the morning like I normally do to keep that soft paced vibe going.

What are your thoughts? Have you had an experience like this and tried to do better? Please be nice and understanding on your comments.

Note: Thank you! To those who have let parents go through. To those who let the parents with children be first on and off the elevators. Thank you to those who have held the door open for that parent to go in the store with his/her hands full with kids, strollers, diaper bags, and a “to get” list. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Getting Ready For Fall While Listening To Christmas Music

So here I am cleaning up the kids rooms, vacuuming all the floors, mopping them, and listening to Christmas music. I know-I know! It isn’t officially Fall yet and I’m listening to Christmas music? Gasp, how can I ever?! LOL! Because Christmas music is so cheerful and it gets me going with the beat. Wouldn’t you agree?

LOL! Now that I said that out loud I imagined myself as this crazy cleaning lady listening to Christmas music as i stroke the mop back and forth listening to the beat of “Here Comes Santa Clause.”

Ok, image be gone! Ha ha ha.

Back to talking about getting ready for the Fall.

Cooler weather is coming and the coziness of home decor starts to come out more. What comes with it is Fall cleaning, so get ready for me to start talking about it. Now that the kids will be starting school later this week I will have more time to write. I know I’ve been a bit neglectful with my blog, but my kids are very important to me and my time belongs to them when they are around. When I say blog I really mean myself because this blog is for me. I love to talk to you and just knowing that someone reads what I write makes me the happiest person ever!

Just yesterday I got to do a little something for myself, which is, shopping! I got a couple of Fall signs and a pillow for my bare living room couch. I am loving it. What’s next on my shopping list is this cozy knitted blanket I saw at the store, a few mums, some more Fall plants, apples, and pumpkins! Yeah!

This lady is ready to say goodbye to Summer and welcome Fall with open arms. Just imagine a little tear running down my cheeks as I wave goodbye to Summer and say a little whisper, “I’ll miss you. See you next year.”

Ok. I got to get back to mopping. I really want to continue to write, but I have to finish my chores. I’ll be back to talk more about Fall and how I clean and keep organized in the kids’ rooms.

My Encounter With A Momma Bear

I love flowers, well who doesn’t, but I love them much more when I can just go to a garden and pick them out myself and all for free.

My wonderful sister-in-law has these beautiful flowers and allowed me to take some of them home with me. Isn’t she so sweet.

They change colors as time goes by. They might be white now, but in a few weeks they will turn into a beautiful blue and violet. And they will then find me back to pick them out!

As I was picking the flowers and taking some pictures, I rememeber the day I had encountered a momma bear and her two cubs.

This was when I lived here in this river house with my husband and two sweet little girls. My husband was working at the time. I was sitting down on the ground by another tree a few feet away from the tree that you see in the background of the first picture of this post.

I saw something move in the corner of my left eye. As I looked up to see what it was, to my disbelief, it was a momma bear walking along with two of her cubs! I got up right away. Both her and I were frightened and in shock. Both of us paused and just stood there looking at each other. And I see both her cubs climbing on the tree looking at me. As surprised as I was, they looked so cute up there. I knew momma bear was as surprised as I was just because she just stood there staring right at me as I was towards her.

Perhaps she just stopped by to have a drink or was looking for something to eat. Although a quiet neighborhood in the middle of the day this was no place for a bear to walk around with her precious babies. No one would bother her, but we also have to think of our babies too what if we were all outside playing?!

This was the time I had my two precious little girls. I had just given birth about a month or two ago. And in the moment of just staring at the momma bear I had so many feelings and thoughts run through my head.

It could have been seconds that all those feelings and thoughts ran through my head or maybe it was minutes. I didn’t track the time nor did I even cared to or thought to do. All I could think of were my two precious baby girls which I was happy they were both safely napping inside the house with their visiting preteen cousin. And thought of how I could escape this scenario without getting hurt and getting safely back to my babies.

I sent out a little prayer to God asking Him to lead me and guide me as to what I should do. And to not let my nerves blind me from what I should do next. At that precise moment I remembered all the little times that I was taught or informed about animals that they are just as scared as us humans are. That we should leave them be, that they will only hurt you if they feel as if their lives are being threatened. I was sitting there first and she encountered me. In front of my home. I know it was an accident and she didn’t mean any harm. I felt as if I knew what she was feeling and going through.

I also thought, don’t run! It will only make it worse. And not to stare at her or turn my back towards her. To not make a fast physical move, but think of one quick!

This is what I did next.

I knew where I was and where the front door to my home was. It was the same distance to get to my front door as it was from me and momma bear. She will get to me faster than I can get to the door. And if I make a run for it she will start to chase me. What if I happened to open the door and she reaches me? Then I give her the house to roam. Such a scary thought! A parent’s worst nightmare. But God made me brave and I felt no fear. That is how I knew He was with me and He would protect me and my family.

So I backed up slowly, looking at her direction but not staring at her or giving her any reasons to fear me. I knew she could feel what I was feeling, so she just stood there looking at me and so where those two cute cubies of hers.

Then I slowly walked sideways heading towards the front door steps not turning my back to her yet. Crossing my feet one over the other till I got to the doorsteps. Walked up till I didn’t see her anymore and that’s when I opened the door and shut it and locked it.

I saw her through my front window. Once I was gone, from their sight, her cubs finally climbed down and walked away with her. Momma bear decided not to walk through the front yards anymore and disappeared into the woods.

I kissed my two little girlies and thanked God for the rescue. I tried to take a picture of her leaving, but the pictures turned out blurry. Thanks to the bad camera focus. This was before I even had a nice camera phone. Oh well, I didn’t care. I was safe in my home with my baby girls and my beautiful niece. She saw the bears as they disappeared into the woods.

One thing for sure, I will never forget that encounter I had with a momma bear and her two cubs. And was and still am ever so grateful for the good Lord’s help. For protecting me that day and everyday.

I never saw the bear again. Nor did I hear any of the neighbors seeing one either. I hope I never have to get close to one ever again.

Have you had any encounters like that before? If so, what happened and what did you do?

Fruitie Smoothie!

I am trying to lessen my sugar intake and to start snacking well. Let me tell ya, it isn’t easy! But with a slow process I believe I will get to my goal. I am being realistic here and I know in not going all sugar-free for the rest of my life. Or at least when I want to indulge in a delicious dessert once in a while; especially, during the holiday seasons. Am I right? Or am I right?!

I came up with my own recipe here for this delicious smoothie. I had a few friends ask me for the recipe since I had apparently “teased” (if I may say) them by posting a picture of the smoothie on my Instagram account but never gave out the recipe. So here it is. Made especially for my wonderful friends and yourself.

I don’t add any sugar other than what’s in the yogurt. If you must add the sugar, add a quarter of a teaspoon at a time.

Makes: 1 Serving

Prep time: 1 min

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Organic Strawberry Yogurt
  • 1/4 of a Ripe Banana
  • 3 Whole Frozen Strawberries
  • 1/2 Cup Mixed Berries (I used Black Cherries and Raspberries)
  • 1/2 Cup Almond Milk (Original)

How To Make:

Just blend all the ingredients in to a blender until a smooth consistency and enjoy!

🍓The frozen fruit will help keep your smoothie cold without getting watered down because we didn’t add the ice. Ice is what makes your smoothies watery.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and my little trick to getting the smoothies act like a smoothie and not get watery when we are trying to enjoy every sip of the fruit not water.

Let me know what you think by leaving me a comment below.

4th of July Hair Bow Clip Tutorial

As the 4th of July approaches, I am eager to make a few things. I love creating and making things that turn out so cute! I mean who doesn’t? But I love doing anything I can myself and something that is useful yet decorative.

Here I have created a tutorial for you on how I made these cute patriotic hair bow clips. I got inspired by all the patriotic DIYs I’ve seen around Instagram and decided I should make something. I also have seen many hair bows on Pinterest and that is where the inspiration for these bows came from. All I did was look at some pics and create my own.

I will demonstrate the tutorial with detailed pictures as well. Hoping it will help you understand me better if you can’t understand what I’m saying, LOL!😂. I sometimes don’t make sense. I hope I don’t do that here.
So here is how to get started.

Things you will need for each bow:

  • 36″ patriotic ribbon (5/8″x 3′)
  • 2 white round felt (1 1/4″ diameter)
  • 1 hair clip
  • Hot glue (low temp)
  • Button
  • Contrasting thread
  • Needle
  • Scissors

Prepping the button:

  • Thread the needle with the contrasting thread. Then thread (or sew) the button. This little trick will make it seem as if you sewed the whole bow. Shhh… This will be our little secret🙊.

Prepping the clip:

  • Glue down one circular felt on to the top of the clip. The top of the clip would be the curved part. The bottom of the clip would be the straight side.

    Making the bow:

    1. Start with 4 inches of the ribbon with print side up and make a wide loop and glue down. The starting edge (end piece) should be hidden under the loop. The measure of the loop from the center should be about 2″ to 2 1/4″. (See picture below after step 2).
    2. On the second loop, you do the same as the first loop making it look like a figure 8. Make sure the continuing ribbon overlaps halfway of the ribbon of the first loop (see picture below). Glue down.
    3. Repeat step 2 till you have 6 loops. You will have some ribbon left over. (See picture below) Don’t cut it! Because you are going to start making mini loops to make the overlapped mini bows. This time, the mini loops should be in 1″ in diameter to 1 1/4″ diameter. You should be able to make 4 mini loops.
    4. Top the bow with the prepared button and glue it down.
    5. On the back of the bow you will glue one circular felt. Then you will connect it with the clip by gluing it down.

That’s it! You are done!! Yay!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Please send me pictures of your work through my email account. Or leave me a message here. You can also take a pic on Instagram and tag me.
