My New Shop: Dainty Cottage Decor

It feels so good to be back. I took one time off from writing just to give myself a little needed break. I have been a little busy starting up a new Instagram account for my new shop I started over at Etsy. You can find my new instagram account @Daintycottagedecor. You can also find me on Etsy here at Dainty Cottage Decor.

I just started my shop making little things I have time to make and also to “test the waters” sort of speak. It is intimidating to get yourself out there and make something not knowing how it is gonna go and if people will like it.

On the pic I have posted on here you can see that pretty pillow cover that is part of my shop. I designed it myself and sewed it together. I think its just so pretty and so cottage-y. I made that word up but i like it. LOL.

I’m hoping to make more in different styles and fill my couch up with some pretty cottage goodness.

You can find that pillow cover over in my shop!

Hope you are having a great day. And I’ll be back to write more as time goes by. Giving you more pictures of things I make. Also, with more recipes for you to try! Have a happy Easter!

The Perfect Gift For My Valentine: February 2017 Watch Gift Ideas

Watch Gift Ideas:

This Valentine’s Day I wanted to do something special for my husband. He is a hard worker, a loving father, and a great husband.

Every holiday he always managed to get me something. Even though, when time came around for the holidays we never seem to have the extra cash for ourselves. Yet he somehow manages to get me something special.

This year is my turn. I managed to get him a Jord watch! For Valentine’s Day! And I have so many great things to say about this watch!!

My mailman came and dropped a black box at my doorsteps. I was excited about it! Once I opened it, to my surprise, I saw the most beautiful wooden box with the brand name on the front side of the box and their initials on the top.

The lid of the box is supported by 4 small magnets, so it won’t easily come right off if you were to tip it. I was not expecting all of this at all. So along with my watch came a cleaner, a cloth, and the wooden box to store my new watch in! Ok-ok, my husband’s new watch. *SIGH*.

As you can see the pic above, he is now wearing it! I don’t know about you, but I tend to be a horrible person to wait to surprise someone. Lol! I couldn’t wait till Valentine’s Day to give it to him. Doesn’t it look so good?!

It takes a lot for me to actually wait to surprise someone with a gift🙈.

Either way, I still surprised him, and he loved the watch! He had so many positive things to say about it and here is his take:

  • It is super lightweight
  • The face is perfect and classy
  • Comfortable
  • The links don’t pinch
  • Great quality work
  • And he loved the box it came in!

And let me tell you. He is a very picky person and has sensitive skin. So if you know someone that’s like that consider shopping for them at Jord’s.

🌿If you like the watch I picked for my hubby, here is the link to my watch.

How I Clean Up My Kids’ Toy Bins

I have mentioned before on my last post that I was going to start talking about how I clean my kids bedrooms and keep them organized.

I have my kids help with the daily routine. Which I am writing about along with this article and will soon be posting about it after this one. And you will be able to see it here.

I do a monthly toy decluttering. This is where I throw any broken toys, loose paper, socks, etc. I know socks? How in the world do socks get in a toy bin? Your guess is as good as mine. Lol!

How I start this process is by making a mess. Yes, you heard me right. A mess!

I begin in my girls’ bedroom because it is the biggest room and it is the room they mostly play in.

I grab all of the girls’ toy bins and dump them in the middle of the room to create a pile of toys. I go around the room and reach under the beds to grab any toys left behind. I then place them all into the pile. I then sit next to the pile and surround the bins beside me.

Before I start, I make sure I have their bins, a garbage bag, and two empty bins. One bin to put toys that belong in the boys’ room and the other bin for toys that belong in the kids’ playroom.

I then start reaching for the first toy and place it in the bin it belongs in. If it’s garbage, put it in the garbage bag.

Once I finish with organizing the toys, I then clean and dust the cubby storage organizer before putting the bins back in their place.

So that’s my tip on how I get the kids’ you bins cleaned done.

Do you have any tips on how you clean up the kids’ rooms?

May 2016: A Weekend of Sun, Rain, Wind, and Mud Pies

Saturday was a day of taking in the beauty of Spring. The day started out beautiful as the birds chirping on the tree tops sing a wonderful tune, the smell of fresh cut grass glazing in the air, and the sound of children playing in their yards. The Sun brightly shining and my kids laughing and playing. Giving me gifts of mud pies they had created with dirt and Princess’ water bowl. Princess is our black lab.

Apparently they were pretending to be bakers. They mixed the “batter” with a few other ingredients like pebbles and grass that we had in our yard and gave me their special creation. Their smiles and the twinkle in their eyes just gave me the sensation of joy and pride. I simply smiled back and said, “Wow, thank you guys!” As I looked at that dirty bowl I couldn’t help but tell myself that this was “The best mud pie I’ll ever have.”

I also received a gift of fresh cut grass by one of my daughters. She picked them out herself. She told me to put it in a glass of water so they will last. Which I did.

As I enjoyed the gifts and kicking my feet up on the lawn chairs it soon came to an end as a storm was coming in.

The air soon got to be cooler and the blue skies slowly turned to gray. Before dinner time it was cloudy, windy, and cold. So much for wanting to enjoy some outdoor living throughout the weekend. Outdoor plans became indoors. We had dinner inside as we saw the rain started to pour in. I was going to start washing the dinner plates when I saw lightning and without a curtain, not even blinds, I quickly decided it was not tonight that I was going to do them. I mean, it’s okay to leave dishes once in a while overnight right?

I got the kids ready for bed. Brushed their teeth, read the Bible, and said our prayers. Before we head to bed we always give each other a hug, a kiss, and a “goodnight, I love you.”

Sunday came along and the weather was no better. Daddy had to work, so we had our little church at home. It was a very windy day and mostly cloudy. Very dreary really. That doesn’t stop the kids from wanting to play. We ended the day with a little game of Hide n’ Go Seek.

Moments like these are what I love the most. I love that I can write about them, so when I come back to read them in a few years or so from now I can remember, smile, laugh, and cry.  Then smile a little more. 🙂

Memories are made here. Would you like to share your memories? Feel free to comment.

A Typical Saturday Morning in Southern New England

It’s a typical Saturday morning here in Southern New England. My kids are off playing together working their imaginations pretending they are dinosaurs and keeping away from the imaginary T-Rex and the hot lava.

Meanwhile, my windows are opened and I can hear the sound of a lawn mower buzzing in the distance, and the aroma of fresh cut grass flowing through my kitchen window as I washed our morning dishes. I just stood there knowing that along with the gentle breeze and the sunlight of a sunny morning was just begging me to come outside to sit a while and take it all in.

I can hear the birds chirping in the distance. Up on the trees singing of a wonderful day this is becoming. I hear peace in the neighborhood. Everyone is joining in the mood. “It is finally feeling more like Spring.” They say. A “Good morning to you” we say to a neighbor walking by. They smile back with the same response.

The sound of the neighboring children playing in their yards. Mine are now out in our backyard chasing each other. With smiles and giggles and a bit of “weee” as they slide down the slide their father had made last Summer.

Now I’m sipping on a cup of tea taking it all in. Enjoying this morning and thanking God for the opportunity He has given me to live this life.

I hope you were able to enjoy and live this morning with me, for this is our typical Saturday morning in Southern New England.

The Garden Fence

When it comes to DIY my husband puts me to shame. This last Mother’s Day weekend we spent it at my sister-in-law’s home. She’s been wanting to have a bigger garden to grow more fruit and veggies, and wanted to keep the critters (aka rabbits) out of her garden.

Her dear husband called mine to have him build a fence for her. They tore their old fencing out and constructed a new one.

Starting from scratch, with new materials, and with my husband’s plans together they created a well built fence.

I just love how it turned out. My sister-in-law was pretty happy about it of course. She does have some work to do. Can’t help but feel a bit jealous though.

To think all weekend long they were out in the rain digging, building, and constructing. Then the sun comes the following day they were done. Poor guys. It was pretty cold out there too.

Mind you, my husband is not a contractor nor a carpenter. I really think he missed his calling. Don’t you think?

I can’t wait to see what my sister-in-law puts in her new garden. What kind of fruit or veggies do you grow in your garden?
